Privacy Policy — Bracketday

What we collect

There is no account here: no sign-up, no email address and no profile, so we never ask you for anything that identifies you.

Like any website, our hosting records ordinary technical request logs (IP address, timestamp, the URL requested and your browser’s user-agent string) for security and diagnostics. We do not use them to build a profile of you. Advertising and analytics are covered in their own sections below.

What your browser sends us

You play each daily bracket entirely in your browser — the theme, the sixteen items and every match-up are generated on your device from the date, so nothing about a bracket needs a server to start or finish.

When you crown a champion, your browser sends one request to our tally endpoint (/api/tally). It contains only the day, the id of the option you crowned, and, for each of your fifteen match-ups, which of the two options you picked. We use it to keep anonymous running totals — how many people chose each option that day — which power the “contrarian score” and the crowd champion. Your browser may also read those totals back with a request to /api/crowd.

These requests carry no account, no name, no email, and no identifier we assign to you. We store only the aggregate counts, and each day’s counts are set to expire automatically after about 35 days. We never store the individual choices of an identifiable person, because there is no identifiable person attached to them.

Your streak and how many brackets you have played are kept only in your browser’s local storage on your own device. They are never sent to us and are lost if you clear your browser data. If our tally service is ever unreachable, the game still works and your champion card still appears — the crowd comparison is simply hidden.
