BracketDay turns a simple question — “which one would you pick?” — into a 20-second daily tournament. Here is exactly how it works, plus a few tips and honest answers to common questions.

What is a daily opinion bracket?

A bracket is a knockout tournament: sixteen contenders, paired off head-to-head, until only one is left standing. BracketDay runs one fresh bracket every day on a single low-stakes theme — comfort foods, tiny everyday joys, pizza toppings, best kind of weather, and dozens more. There are no right answers. It is pure opinion, and the fun is in defending the champion you crown.

Everyone who plays on the same day gets the exact same sixteen items in the same starting positions, so you and a friend can compare champions and argue about the results.

How to play

1. Open BracketDay and read the day’s theme and its sixteen contenders.
2. Press Start today’s bracket. You are shown one match-up at a time: two options, side by side.
3. Tap the one you prefer. It advances; the next match-up slides in. A progress bar shows the round — Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, then the Final.
4. After fifteen quick taps you crown a champion. A shareable champion card appears with your winner, the theme, the date, and — once enough people have played — how your pick compares to the crowd.
5. Share the card or download it as an image, then come back tomorrow to keep your streak alive.

Tips for a better bracket

• Go with your gut. The first instinct is usually the honest one, and it keeps the whole run under about twenty seconds.
• Judge each match on its own. An underdog you love can still beat a crowd favourite — that is how upsets (and high contrarian scores) happen.
• Chase a high contrarian score if you like backing the minority pick, or a low one if you want to prove your taste is universal.
• Play every day. Your streak counts consecutive days, so a quick daily bracket keeps the number climbing.
• Share the card. Half the fun is watching friends disagree with your champion — the image is built to spark exactly that argument.
• Replay if you change your mind. You can run the same day again; only the first play of each day extends your streak.

Is BracketDay free? Yes, completely free. It is supported by unobtrusive ads that never cover the bracket or your champion card.

Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up, no email, and no login. Your streak is stored privately in your own browser.

How is the contrarian score calculated? For each match-up where enough people have voted, we look at how many chose the same option you did. Backing the crowd’s minority raises your score; agreeing with the majority lowers it. If not enough votes have landed yet, the score is simply hidden and your card still shows.

Does everyone get the same bracket? Yes. The theme and the sixteen items are chosen by the date, so every player on a given day faces the identical tournament.
